Anchors to solid clay brick masonry in tension: Behavior under monotonic and repeated loading for varied embedment depths

摘要
The paper presents the results of tension tests on anchors installed in solid brick masonry walls. Anchors were installed in various locations (either in bricks or in mortar joints), in walls either uncracked or with cracks passing through mortar joints. All tests, either monotonic or repeated, were executed under displacementcontrolled conditions. The purpose of the experimental campaign was to investigate the behavior of anchors embedded to masonry under seismic conditions. To this aim, several parameters were investigated, namely, the depth at which anchors are embedded in masonry, their location within the wall, the presence of cracks, either crossing the anchor or being located at its vicinity. The measured tension resistances, depending on the examined parameters, are compared against values calculated based on current design guidelines. This comparison shows that the calculated values for the expected failure mode are sufficiently conservative.
