Currently, overseas and domestic asphalt modifier is mostly gained from petroleum byproduct, which is costly and can not be reborn. So the kind of asphalt modifier can not satisfy the requirement of increasing highway construction. It is necessary to find a new modifier, which is natural and reborn, and has good performance and reasonable price. By introducing the vulcanizing process of eucommia ulmoides gum and the physical mechanics function of vulcanized gum, and explaining the good engineering characteristic and engineering application prospect of eucommia ulmoides gum, a new approach was presented to blend asphalt with eucommia ulmoides gum as a modifier used in pavement material of highway. The analysis of infrared spectrum and scan electricity mirror and asphalt basic index experiment were made. The result indicates that eucommia ulmoides gum can improve low temperature performance and high temperature performance of asphalt, so it is feasibile for asphalt modifying.
