Based on current studies of buckling-restrained braces (BRB) in literatures and the experimental researches done by authors, the influencing parameters on the performance of BRB were studied. According to the FEMA450 and the Chinese design code, the design suggestions for BRB were put forward in this paper, including: (1) BRB sketch in the structures; (2) Stability requirements of BRB to ensure the strength development of the steel core, (3) Flexural strength and splitting tensile strength requirements of the restraining part of BRB, and design method to determine the reinforcement for the restraining RC part or the steel tube for the restraining CFT part; (4) details of BRB, including the unbonded layer, the gap between steel core and restraining part, the connection of BRB to the structures. Finally the design procedures of BRB were presented.
