Polarization detection is an important branch in radar target detection. When the statistical characteristics of Gaussian clutters are known, polarization whitening (PWF) is usually selected as detector. In this paper, the polarization behaviour of target and the statistical character of clutter are supposed known. In order to make use of the knowledge of target, a detection algorithm based on polarization adaption is presented and a polarization adaption detector (PAD) is designed according to this algorithm. Experiments on dihedral target detection in low polarization degree Gaussian clutter with PAD and PWF are carried out. The detection results show that PAD has better performance in low SCR.
