摘要
Built to meet plate demand in the southeastern states, Nucor's new mill in Hertford County, North Carolina, started operation last October. Nucor is one of the few US companies willing to take the gamble of locating mills away from traditional steelmaking regions. Aside the Chowan river, on the edge of what is locally known as the 'Great Dismal Swamp', the 1M short ton annual capacity mill ships scrap, pig iron and HBI overland and by river to charge its 150t DC electric arc furnace which feeds a medium thick slab caster and single stand reversing mill for the production of plate up to 3.12m wide.
