Plastic deformation by upsetting and threading of high-alloy brass of the Cu-Zn-Mn-Al-Fe-Si-Pb system was studied with allowance for the behavior of isolated structural constituents. Plane strain during upsetting was studied from the results of laboratory tests using a ZDMU-10t universal testing machine. A mathematical simulation of plastic deformation upon upsetting and threading was performed using the finite-element method. To this end, a geometrical model of the brass structure was constructed using statistical simulation by the Monte Carlo method. Specific features of the failure of (Fe,Mn)5Si3 silicides upon deformation were studied. The effects of the shape, size, and relative arrangement of silicide particles on their mode of deformation upon threading were established.
