Perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene): Instructions and regulations

The position of perchloroethylene (tetrachloroethylene) with regard to current Italian legislation is clarified by the DOLLMAR Environment and Safety Service (S.A.S). At the moment Italian law does not limit the use of perchloroethylene, which is used in degreasing metals and in dry-cleaning. Its use is subject to regulations governing atmospheric emissions and health and safety at work, but the directive dealing with volatile organic compounds does not prohibit its use. The situation is different for triethylene (trichloroethylene), however, which has been classified as a carcinogenic substance.
