Three different types of pulverized fuel fired boilers for the Asian market were analyzed using computational reactive fluid dynamics (CRFD) studies. The three plants analyzed were the bituminous coal fired boilers WaiGaoQiao 2×980 MWel, a 609 MWel two pass boiler on the Phillippines and a down fired boiler for anthracite located in China. A reasonably good agreement on thermal and combustion parameters was found. The results show that CRFD is a powerful tool for the assistance in the design, operation and maintenance for the whole spectrum of pulverized fuel fired boiler types.
