Attenuation of waves in solids by the fluctuation mechanism

Propagation of elastic-plastic waves is modelled using a specially defined function of velocity distribution of mesoscale particles. The average velocity of particles and its variance play the role of the statistical moments of the distribution function. It is shown that a change-over to a different kinematic mechanism of dynamic straining can be treated as a noise-induced (i.e., induced by variance of the particle velocity) structural phase transition which occurs at some threshold value of the rate of variance variation.
