Static and low-cycle strength of welded joints in a low-alloy steel on the mesoscale level

Experimental investigations were carried out on polycrystalline specimens of butt welded joints in 10G2S structural steel produced from 8 mm sheets with one-sided, V-shaped preparation of the edges using pulsed arc carbon dioxide welding in a stabilized regime. The plastic deformation of the loaded welded joints is determined by the loss of shear stability on the mesolevel. Loss of shear stability is associated with the evolution of the Luders band and subsequent vortex nature of plastic yielding in the region of the parent metal. Damage accumulation in the welded joint on the mesolevel under conditions of static and cyclic loading is of the multi-state nature.
