JONSWAP spectrum was used to generate focused wave groups of different parameters in the flume based on the principle of wave propagation to study the interaction between the focused waves and the vertical circular cylinder. The method of addition and subtraction of the wave crest and trough was used to analyze diffraction effects of focused wave. Results show that the second order effect due to the interaction is more than that of the first order. Statistical analysis shows that wave run-up is increasing with the wave steepness and the relative cylinder sizes increasing, meanwhile the run-up around the circular cylinder at different wave incident direction is also changed.
