Effects of peptide (IIAEK) on lipid metabolism of mice fed high fat and cholesterol diet

This study investigated effects of a pentapeptide from milk β-globulin on lipoprotein metabolism in male mice fed high-fat and -cholesterol diets. After orally administered for 3 weeks, the plasma total cholesterol content was significantly reduced 30% in peptide supplemented diet group. The supplement of peptide significantly increased the hepatic total lipid content (24%), but significantly reduced the hepatic total cholesterol content (24%). Moreover, IIAEK significantly increased the fecal total cholesterol excretion (23%), but significantly reduced the fecal bile acid content (36%). The results of this study showed that IIAEK did not significantly affect the lipoprotein metabolism in male mice.
