Banana straw is brittle, rich in cellulose and high moisture content, the existing grinding and returning machine has some problems, such as high working resistance, low grinding rate and easy winding of cutter rollers. In view of the above problems, a kind of anti-winding banana straw returning machine with auger feeding was developed. This paper described the overall design scheme and main components structure of the machine, determined the sliding cutting curve of cutter edge by using the method of theoretical modeling, the blade for mechanics was analyzed and the finite element analysis was given by ANSYS software. According to the main factors affecting the work of the returning machine by horizontal response analysis, the influence degree of each factor on the qualified rate and work efficiency of straw crushing was determined and the field experiments were carry out. The test results showed that: the qualified rate of straw crushing was 96.82% and the working efficiency was 0.43 when the speed of the machine was 0.7-1.5 m/s, the speed of feed shaft was 84.05 r/min and the speed of crushing shaft was 1525 r/min, and the winding degree of the cutter roll was obviously reduced. The experimental results provided a theoretical and applied basis for solving the current problem of banana straw treatment in South China, and the results are of great significance. © 2019, Asian Association for Agricultural Engineering.
