Compression of electromagnetic pulses in an asymmetric dielectric waveguide

A rigorous simulation is performed of the compression of E- and H-polarized electromagnetic pulses propagating along a dielectric layer placed on a dielectric substrate with a smaller permittivity. The field source is a filament of an exterior current. To precisely determine its time profile, the phase reversal technique is used with compensation of loss that the pulse to be compressed suffers in the course of its travel along the waveguiding dielectric layer. Within the frame of the numerical experiments performed for the two field polarizations, a seven- and sixteen-fold compression of the input signal length have been obtained with the waveguide line length equal to 1 m. The compressed pulse length does not exceed 1 ns in both cases. The obtained results can be useful for designing data transfer systems. ©2019 by Begell House, Inc.
