摘要
In this research, large eddy simulation (LES) was used to do numerical simulations of the turbulent round jet, and the results were compared to those obtained using Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS). The turbulence statistics are independent of the Reynolds number for Re > = 1104. Since high Reynolds number flow is more representative of real-world engineering applications, we simulate a turbulent round jet in three dimensions near the jet’s exit, where the Reynolds number is 6.2104. Both the LES and RANS turbulence models are compared to experimental data for their ability to predict the distribution of mean axial velocity, radial velocity, and turbulent kinetic energy along the axis. LES’s turbulence statistics agree with those from experiments, and it is better at predicting the features of the core area and the length of the jet core. Q criteria were used to effectively describe the unstable process of the coherent structures, allowing us to get details about the instantaneous vortex structures that form throughout the jet process. The simulation results demonstrate the validity and accuracy of using LES to model the turbulent round jet flow field. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.
