Placenta praevia

Placenta praevia (PP) can be defined as the abnormal implantation of placental tissue over the internal cervical os. It gives rise to many concerns including obstruction of the fetal outlet for vaginal delivery necessitating a Caesarean section (CS), antepartum haemorrhage (APH), preterm delivery and postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).1,2 1,2 Furthermore, it is associated with an increased risk of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), particularly after previous uterine surgery, which may lead to massive obstetric haemorrhage and require Caesarean hysterectomy. Hence, PP is a significant cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.1 1
