Examining the heterographic prefaces of Maurice Barr & egrave;s, this article aims to understand the reasons why he wrote prefaces to nearly two hundred books. After looking at the writers he prefaced and the circumstances that led to him doing so, it shows how some of these introductory texts were closely linked to his own oeuvre and how they were a means for him to remain in the spotlight.
