摘要
Currently, researchers are concerned with preparing beta-Ti alloys with low Young's modulus, with biocompatible elements such as Nb, Ta, and Zr. Ti-35Nb-5Ta-7Zr (TNZT) alloy can be considered a well-known beta-Ti alloy which is utilised in different biomedical applications owing to its low Young's modulus and high biocompatibility. So, the preparation and characterisation of this alloy were studied. Ti-35Nb-5Ta-7Zr alloy is effectively prepared by powder metallurgy using 800 MPa compacting pressure and 18 h of sintering time (2 h at 500 degrees C and 16 h at 1200 degrees C), where X-ray diffraction, optical microscope analysis, and scanning electron microscope with Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) ensure sintering success and true porosity of (23%) ensure the suitability of the used level for the compacting pressure. The Ti-35Nb-5Ta-7Zr samples fabricated by powder metallurgy have comparable mechanical properties and microstructure with those fabricated by the casting method. The high mechanical properties, good wear resistance in SBF solution, and low elastic modulus made this alloy a strong candidate for biomedical applications such as intramedullary nails, surgical plates, and joint replacement.
