摘要
In this paper, we present the energy levels, hopping configurations, and numerical models of the Bi/Er co-doped fiber amplifier. Numerical simulations are utilized to solve the rate and power transfer equations of the model. The gain and noise characteristics of the Bi/Er co-doped fiber amplifier are comprehensively compared and analyzed. The results show that providing lower signal power and sufficiently high pump power is beneficial to improving the gain of the Bi/Er co-doped fiber amplifier, and the gain is independent of the pump direction in this case. The forward pump design has the lowest noise figure, followed by the bidirectional and the backward. Gain spectra in the range of 1360 nm to 1560 nm are predicted. In addition, we have verified the feasibility of the numerical simulation model by comparing it with the experimental data. This analysis provides specific references and guidance for the design and optimization of the Bi/Er co-doped fiber amplifier.
