摘要
This study examines the effectiveness of viscous fluid dampers in the dynamic response of a steel structure subjected to Kobe earthquake. The structure is equipped with diagonal viscous dampers on each floor, exhibiting both non-linear and linear behavior. By varying the non-linearity of the dampers, the study aims to assess their impact on reducing the structure's dynamic response. The results show that non-linear dampers, characterized by a non-linearity parameter of 0.8, outperform linear dampers in terms of dynamic response reduction, for equal damping coefficient and stiffness. In addition, the study proposes a simplified procedure for determining the damping coefficient required for linear dampers to achieve an efficiency similar to that of non-linear dampers. This research highlights the importance of selecting appropriate dampers and optimizing their parameters to improve the resilience of structures in the event of seismic events.
