摘要
Aim: The delay in the eruption of a maxillary incisor has several causes, and for planning an orthodontic treatment it is necessary to establish the correct diagnosis. The etiology of the impactation can be an obstacle in the eruption path, lack of eruption space or a malformation of the crown or of the root . Material and method: This paper reports the orthodontic and surgical management of impacted maxillary incisor in a 13 -year -old girl with mixed dentition and unerupted maxillary left central incisor. Results: The impaction of the maxillary central incisor was due to the crown malformation (large size and shape of the crown), with mesial intraoseeous inclination and the lack of space for eruption and alignment. The treatment consisted of : space creation for the impacted teeth, surgical exposure of the crown and induced eruption of impacted tooth. After aligning and obtaining of normal occlusal relationships was performed reshaping to 21 and 22, in order to improve the apearence of the teeth and obtain a satisfactorily smile. Conclusions: The treatment of impacted teeth is a challenge for practitioners and it requires early diagnosis and an appropriate orthodontic and surgical management. Missing and unerupted maxillary incisors is unattractive and can have a pottentially negative impact on dental aesthetics which may effect social interaction.
