摘要
The die is a very important production tool in the high-pressure die casting process after the die casting machine. In this research paper, we will look at the key process parameters that influence die life. The enhancement of the die life has been discussed in this work by optimizing process parameters. The die main inserts are manufactured from AISI H13 steel. This steel consists of alloying elements like chromium, molybdenum, silicon, vanadium in addition to carbon. These alloying elements improve thermal shock resistance, strength, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. The die is subjected to high thermal stresses, impact loads, liquid metal pressure, and high velocity of liquid flow while operating. Heat treatment, nitriding, PVD coatings, and other process parameters play a major role in improving die life. To maintain the desired temperature and reduce temperature gradient, the die should be continuously cooled with water cooling lines while operating. Otherwise, the die is a subjected to a high thermal shock which causes cracks and ultimate failure. © 2022, The Institution of Engineers (India).
