摘要
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common chronic mucodermatosis of unknown etiology. Lesions may occur on the skin, the oral mucosa, and in the genital region. In the oral cavity, the disease causes changes to the mucosa which may be asymptomatic or symptomatic. Initially, symptomatic OLP is often treated using topical steroids. Only severe forms of lichen are treated systemically, generally in collaboration with an experienced dermatologist. Since OLP is considered a risk factor for malignant transformation, regular recall visits should be initiated at intervals determined individually depending on findings and symptoms of the affected patient.
