Metamorphic P-T-t path of mafic granulite in the Bashiwake area, South Altyn Tagh

Deciphering the P-T-t path of high-pressure (HP) granulites in collisional orogeny can provide crucial constraints on the geodynamic evolution of subduction-exhumation especially in scenarios where linking of isotopic ages to the metamorphic evolution presents a challenge. Petrographic observations suggested that the studied mafic granulites have suffered multi-stage metamorphism, and the conventional geothermobarometry and the thermobarometry of rare earth element (REE) in garnet and clinopyroxene gave the P-T conditions of 17.5~22.6 kbar, 901~985℃ and 17~28 kbar,1012~1049℃ for HP-UHT stage, respectively. Zircon U-Pb dating of metamorphic zircons yielded an age of 491±3.5 Ma, representing the HP-UHT stage based on the REE distribution coefficients between zircon and garnet. © 2020, Science Press.
