摘要
Cystic echinococcsis (CE) occurs worldwide whereas alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is confined to the northern hemisphere. CE and AE although caused by the same genus are completely different in their clinical manifestation and course of disease. CE cysts show expansive growth and compression of surrounding structures whereas AE lesions are infitrative, tumor-like. This results in different diagnostic, therapeutic and follow-up strategies. Diagnosis and individualized treatment is best etablished in cooperation with a treatment center for echinococcosis.
