Several effects in coherent transition radiation which may be understood analytically and which influence the character of the x-ray spectrum resulting from a stack of foils are discussed. In particular, coherence effects may produce a radiation pattern narrow in angle, but the possibility to make a narrow frequency spectrum is severely limited.
