This article evaluates the inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) technique for the determination of rare-earth elements in rocks. Comparisons are made with neutron activation analysis (NAA), another method commonly used for this purpose. It is predicted that ICP-AES will play an increasingly important role in such determinations.
