Deep neck infection: analysis of 63 cases

摘要
Objectives: Although the advent of antibiotics has reduced the overall number of deep neck infections, they still result in the life-threatening condition. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment in deep neck infections. Methods: In the years between January 2000 and October 2006 63 patients hospitalized at Department of 2. Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital with deep neck infections are enrolled. Results: There were 43 male 20 female patients. The submandibular space was the most frequent location (49%) followed by the parapharyngeal space (36%). All the patients were taken to intravenous antibiotic therapy and an additional drainage in 10 patients (16%) were also carried out. One patient was died from septicemia. Conclusion: Patients who receive an appropriate medical treatment immediately after the diagnosis of deep neck infection.
