SECONDARY PROCEDURES AND LATE CORRECTIONS IN CLEFT LIP NOSE DEFORMITY

Nowadays, treatment of a cleft lip nasal deformity continues to be an important problem. In our country after the initial repair of cleft lip in early childhood period, other treatment protocols of the patients can not be completed for some reasons. These kinds of patients have not had the benefit orthodontic management, alveolar bone grafting at an appropriate age. The patients generally present with alveolar arch malalignments and anterior fistulae as well as nasal deformity. In this study, we present single-stage treatment of the nasal and secondary lip deformity that we used. Between the 2002 and 2006 January, 22 cases with unilateral cleft lip deformities were underwent single-stage corrective surgery. 14 cases had an anterior fistula and all of the cases had maxillary and alveolar arch pathology in various severities. Additionally, all of the cases had some lip deformities such as scar widening, whistling deformity and vermillion border irregularities. Open rhinoplasty technique was used in all cases. Lip scar revisions, repair of fistula, nasal sill and pyriform margin augmentation, SMR and reshaping of the nose were carried out depending on the patient's status.
