A bijection establishing the Cauchy identity for Sp(2n) ∏ 1≤i≤j≤n (1-titj) ∏ i,j=1 n (1-tixj)-1 (1-tixj-1)-1 = {A figure is presented} spμ(x +1 1,...,x +1 n) sμ(t1,...,tn) is presented, using the insertion algorithm of Berele. A key element in the bijection is a new encoding of up-down tableaux. We present this as a correspondence proving the following enumerative formula for the number of up-down tableaux of length k and shape μ: {A figure is presented} k |μ|fβfμ. © 1990.
