摘要：

his work aims to contribute to the debate on the notion of local autonomy and its relation with local democracy. It is proposed that to deepen the discussion on and the interaction between the two concepts, it is possible to identify an specific theoretical framework for local democracy by which to enable the recognition of the requirements for both, its feasibility and its contribution, to strengthening the general democratic regime. On these basis relevant analytical categories maybe established for the empirical study of institutional designs and practices and the processes of formation, reproduction and contestation of such arrangements and practices by stakeholders.
