ECOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE TERRITORY IN URBAN AGGLOMERATIONS - (AN EXAMPLE OF THE SOLUTION ON THE TERRITORY OF BRATISLAVA)

The aim of the contribution is to explain the procedure of the ecological evaluation of the territory of Bratislava and proposals for the creation of ecological balance in specific urban conditions. We characterize in detail these outputs that express the ecological ''value'' of the natural environment and propose new ecologically stabilizing elements. We have elaborated: interpretation maps expressing the quality of biotic components and present state of the landscape ecological stability, proposal of the ecologically optimum use of agricultural land reserves and proposal of the territorial system of ecological stability. The results of the ecological evaluation were used in the ''Concept of the ecologically optimum use of the territory of the capital of Slovak Republic - Bratislava'' (1991). The decision-making process and the selection of ecological alternatives issued from the degree of suitability, and/or unsuitability of individual categories of the functional use of the territory, respecting the most important limits. A method was applied, that enabled to determine the carrying capacity with respect to chosen activities and their combinations at present and in future as well.
