摘要
Resonant ionisation mass spectroscopy is rapidly becoming a popular ultrasensitive analytic technique. The elemental selectivity of this technique depends on multiphonon absorption by gas phase atoms. In an attempt to determine the efficiency of the resonant and ionisation steps, two-and three-photon ionisation transitions in caesium vapour were studied. Two-photon ionisation (one-photon excitation, one-photon ionisation) spectra of CS were obtained for the 6s-7p, 6s-8p, etc as well as the 6s-p Rydberg states. Three-photon ionisation (two-photon excitation, one-photon ionisation) spectra were also obtained in the region 660-620 nm. The three-photon ionisation transitions 6s-nd and 6s-ns were observed, with the s-s transitions being more prominent than theory predicts.
