EXPRESSION OF MESSENGER-RNA FOR GABA(A) RECEPTOR ALPHA-1-SUBUNIT IN MOUSE-BRAIN

摘要
The expression of two kinds of mRNA for GABA(A) receptor alpha-1-subunit was detected in both mouse brain and its primary cultured neurons by Northern analysis. The mRNA for GABA(A) receptor alpha-1-subunit in primary cultured neurons was detected from an early stage, and its rapid increase was observed thereafter. Although a similar type of developmental changes in the mRNA was observed in the cerebral cortex in vivo, it was slower then those observed in cultured neurons in vitro. The analysis of Southern blot hybridization indicated the presence of a single hybridizing band for GABA(A) receptor alpha-1-subunit in the mouse genomic DNA. Therefore, it is presumed that the expression of two kinds of mRNA may be caused by multiple transcription from the single gene for GABA(A) receptor alpha-1-subunit.
