摘要
Mode-locking of a synchronously pumped KCl:Li, F//A(II) color center laser at 2. 653 mu m is described. The frequency of the infrared beam is upconverted by mixing with part of the argon pump beam or with a separate dye laser beam. Each pulse consists of a long component of duration several hundred picoseconds preceding a short, mode-locked, component. At 900 mW power, 84% of the pulse energy is in the short component. Mode-locking takes place with or without water vapor present in part of the cavity, the main effect of the water vapor being to prevent wavelength tuning.
