A NEW METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MERCURY BY SPECTROPHOTOMETRY USING INCOMPLETE CUBANE-TYPE MOLYBDENUM AQUA ION, MO3S4(AQ)4+

摘要
A new method for the determination of mercury by spectrophotometry was investigated using incomplete cubane-type molybdenum aqua complex, Mo3S4(aq)4+. Remarkable absorbance enhancement was observed when the complex was mixed with mercurous or mercuric ion in the presence of acetic acid and ammonium acetate. Absorbance of solutions containing mercurous or mercuric ion showed the highest value when the concentrations of acetic acid and ammonium acetate were each 3 moles/1. Metallic mercury was also determined under conditions similar to the measurement of mercurous or mercuric ion.
