BLOOD-PRESSURE VALUES DURING PHYSICIANS MEASUREMENT AT REST AND DURING EXERCISE AS WELL AS BY SELF-MEASUREMENT IN 45 PATIENTS WITH HYPERTENSIVE DIURNAL MEANS AT AMBULATORY BLOOD-PRESSURE MONITORING

Neither measurement during office visits nor self-measurement (autotest) produced normal blood pressure values in 45 hypertensive patients with a diurnal diastolic mean greater-than-or-equal-to 87 mmHg at ABPM (Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring). Borderline levels were nevertheless observed in 7 patients during physician's measurement and in 14 patients at autotest. The diurnal diastolic mean was below 95 mmHg in 7 and 12 of these borderline hypertensives, respectively. Almost all of them demonstrated peak systolic blood pressure at ABPM and during ergometry. There was a significant correlation between peak systolic pressures at ABPM and systolic pressures during ergometry (p < 0.001). The correlation was even stronger between peak systolic pressures and the difference of diurnal systolic mean and systolic blood pressures at autotest.
