External signals of the form a sin 2 pi f(0)t (t greater than or equal to 0) are applied to the PLL tracking system. The experimental values of the critical amplitude a, such that the system is unstable for a > a(c) vary continuously with f(0), and are in good agreement with the values obtained by numerical analysis. Extra stability due to barrier recrossing is gained in the narrow frequency range above the characteristic frequency f(c), at which the system is the least stable. No hysteresis occurs for increasing or decreasing a. The results are free from an error in a preceding paper.
