SPATIAL-TEMPORAL CHARACTERISTICS OF INTERNAL WAVES NEAR THE ARCTIC BASIN CONTINENTAL-SHELF MARGIN

摘要
The results of two experiments in which the spatial-temporal characteristics of internal waves under drifting ice near the Arctic ocean continental shelf margin were determined are presented. As in other ice covered high latitude regions of the World ocean experimental spectra are lower than the Garrett - Munk model spectrum. Due to specific shelf margin conditions the spectra have one of the highest in the Arctic area levels. Spectral slopes are similar lo the model ones. The analysis or horizontal coherencies leads to the conclusion that wavenumber band width of internal waves in the Arctic basin is about 10 times wider than that in moderate latitudes.
