Research with Sexual Minority Youths: Where Do We Go from Here?

During the last three decades, a growing body of research has documented the psychosocial risks and challenges facing sexual minority youths. This paper discusses the evolution of research with sexual minority youths, current trends that should be continued, and recommendations for a social work research agenda aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of these adolescents. This agenda should include integrating sexualminority issues into general studies of adolescence, more studies of transgender youth, longitudinal studies, intervention research, and further consideration of ethical issues in the conduct of research with sexual minority youth.
