VARIANTS OF ADH GENE OF DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER IN NATURAL POPULATIONS

The variants of alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) gene fragment of Drosophila melanogaster from the natural populations of Russia, Ukraine and Kirgizia were studied. F-form of this enzyme was found present in all studied populations. An F-form Adh variant and three S-form variants were detected. Two out of the three S-form Adh alleles are not annotated in DNA sequence database and, probably, result from the crossin-over and mutation. The third allele we described as S-variant might represent the null allele.
