Current Phase Control Methods for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PM motors) fed by inverters are becoming increasing attractive in a wide variety of speed control applications. The performance of PM motor and the inverter capacity are deeply affected by the current phase control methods and the rotor geometry. In this paper, three types of current phase control methods are examined for the interior magnet motor and the surface magnet motor. The control circuits for realizing these control methods are investigated and a drive test is carried out. The most suitable current phase control method for the rotor geometry is examined by computer simulation and experimentation.
