A SINGLE-MODE FIBER RING-RESONATOR WITH A NONLINEAR FIBER DIRECTIONAL COUPLER USING DEGENERATE 2-WAVE MIXING

We present a theoretical analysis of an optical fibre ring resonator with a 2 x 2 nonlinear fibre directional coupler. The nonlinear fibre coupler is constructed by inserting a thin slab of a photorefractive crystal between two fibre cores inside a fibre coupler. Owing to the degenerate two-wave mixing with the photorefractive crystals, the output characteristics of the fibre ring resonator are improved significantly. Some performance parameters, such as the finesse, the peak transmission, the contrast, the contrasted transmission and the phase sensitivity, are computed and discussed.
