Claming the right to conscientious objection to same-sex marriage means to reaffirm the primacy of ruling on sexuality on the basis of religious norms instead of on the basis of secular norms. After a short introduction on the history of canonical marriage as defining gender construction, this article will focus on conscientious objection to same-sex marriage as providing an effective and supportive way to strongly reassert the primacy of religious law over secular law in the field of sexuality.
