The paper presents an analysis of the a.c. voltage regulator system employing a parallel-connected thyristor and diode pair (thyrode) in each supply line, for the case of the commonly-used 3-phase, 3-wire circuit with star-connected R-L load. A method is given for evaluation of critical operating conditions and for determination of the appropriate mode of operation for any load. The employed technique enables overall circuit performance to be efficiently computed. Some general performance characteristics are presented. Comparison of calculated and measured performance shows excellent agreement over the full control range.
