摘要
Introduction: a global prevalence of surgical wound infection of 5-10 % has been calculated. Objective: to summarize the main elements that surround the microbiological diagnosis and its importance in surgical infections, analyzing those factors that predispose to microbial proliferation in surgical wounds. Development: at present, infection of the surgical site is the third most common nosocomial infection and the most important among surgical patients. The approach to this topic is fully justified if one takes into consideration the diversity of existing surgeries and their proliferation. Conclusions: the realization of the microbiological diagnosis is fundamental, both to define the phase of the infection, and to identify the microorganism that undermines the result of the surgical intervention, contributing to establish its antibiotic sensitivity and to the appropriate choice of the antibiotic therapy.
