摘要:
The Long QT syndrome is due to a prolongation in the ventricular repolarization. It may be the cause of dizziness, syncope and sudden cardiac death due to polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, known as "torsade de pointes", or ventricular fibrillation. The prolongation of the QT interval may be due to genetic alteration and / or secondary to drugs or electrolyte disturbances which may prolong the myocardium's action potential. The prolongation of the QT interval by amiodarone is a manifestation of its action on ventricular repolarization. In spite of this effect, rarely it is linked to ventricular fibrillation. The treatment of the acquired long QT syndrome is the discontinuation of the culprit drug, normalization of serum electrolytes and to avoid bradycardia. A case of Torsade de pointes due to amiodarone is presented.
