摘要
How do Mexican Americans and US Central Americans textually represent (US) Central American, Chicana/o and Mexican American subjects and what can be gained or lost by these intercultural narrations? Issues of naming, generalizing and anxieties of transculturation in Chicana/o and US Central American narratives are developed especially in the access and deployment of US Central American voice and authorial agency. Through mutual (mis) representations, both US Central Americans and Chicana/os open textual spaces where US Central Americans now more fully represent themselves as they question their own Chicana/o, Central American and American identifications. The article explores these textual intercultural (mis) representations and seeks to contribute to the emergent body of knowledge by US Central Americans whose relevance continues to grow within Chicana/o and Latina/o literatures and discourses.
