The synthesis of the novel (1'R*,2'S*,3'R*,4'S*,5'R*)-1-(3',4'-epoxy-2',5'-dihydroxycyclohexyl)-3-methyl-but-2-enone (2), recently isolated from the culture medium of the fungus Eutypa lata, is described.
