Piston rods of vibration dampers and gas springs are conventionally protected against wear and corrosion by hard chromium plating. The IFA StoBdampfer GmbH has developed a short-time carbonitriding process, in which a close compound layer consisting of iron-carbonitrides and a sublaid diffusion layer arise, guaranteeing a durable wear-and-corrosion protection. The procedure is characterized by short treatment periods, low costs, high environmental standard and high operational safety.
